KCAO News Briefs: September 24 to 30

September marks Hunger Action Month, a nationwide effort to fight food insecurity.

In Kings County, the issue is more prevalent than in California as a whole. In 2021, 12.1% of residents in Kings County face food insecurity, compared to California's 10.5%. However, the good news is that this number is on the decline in Kings County.

The situation is even more concerning when it comes to children. Data from 2021 in Kings County shows, 17.8% of children are food insecure, a rate higher than California's 13.5%. Fortunately, this rate is also decreasing over time. These stats come from KPFP.org.

This week, KCAO extends a heartfelt thank you to several organizations that have been instrumental in combating food insecurity in Kings County:

  • CalViva Health

  • Central California Food Bank

  • Family Healthcare Network

  • West Hills College in Lemoore

The fight against food insecurity is a collective effort, and every bit helps. Let's keep the momentum going and ensure that no one in Kings County goes hungry. Share this post, volunteer, or donate—let's work together for a hunger-free Kings County.
