KCAO Receives Funding for Adolescent Family Life Program to Empower Expectant and Parenting Youth

We're excited to share that the California Department of Public Health has awarded KCAO $239,156 per year to support case managers for the Adolescent Family Life Program (AFLP). This funding will cover the period from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2026.

AFLP is a strengths-based case management program designed to empower expectant and parenting youth, helping them build resilience and thrive during and after their participation in the program. Through one-on-one meetings with case managers, youth can establish caring relationships, identify their needs and interests, and receive support in accessing services, setting goals, and planning for the future.

Developed by the California Department of Public Health's Maternal Child and Adolescent Health Division, the AFLP Positive Youth Development (PYD) Model is a youth-centered, strength-based approach that recognizes the potential of all young people. It emphasizes high expectations, supportive relationships, and the ability of youth to make meaningful contributions to their lives, families, and communities.

By turning these values into actionable activities, the AFLP PYD Model enables young people to develop and use their strengths and skills to navigate life's challenges, build healthy connections, and work toward personal goals. This ultimately leads to healthier and happier lives for both the youth and their children.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact this funding and the dedicated case managers will have on the lives of expectant and parenting youth in our community.
