Check Presentation – State Senator Melissa Hurtado $1 Million Donation

Last week, KCAO had the pleasure of hosting State Senator Melissa Hurtado to commemorate the allocation of one million dollars in funding for the new KCAO Food Bank and Service Center. The new Food Bank and Service Center aims to create and oversee a service campus featuring a new and expanded Food Bank, a Centralized Kitchen, a Housing Navigation Center, and a Low Barrier Shelter. Moreover, the proposed Centralized Kitchen and Wrap-around Services project will contribute to our community in several ways:

  • It will amplify the KCAO Food Bank's annual imports and exports of goods.

  • The Centralized Kitchen will prepare and distribute meals to sustain local preschool sites and the Summer Food Programs and serve daily meals to the public.

  • It will facilitate the reduction of homeless encampments and promote community re-establishment. It will offer wrap-around services, including substance abuse prevention/rehabilitation, counseling, case management, support groups, and facilitate collaboration with community partners to provide additional services.

  • Provide around-the-clock staffing and security measures.

  • Co-locate current and future KCAO programs on the campus.

Through these measures, we can drive positive change and enhance the quality of life for those requiring assistance. Establishing a new Food Bank and Service Center aligns with KCAO’s objective of fostering self-reliance within individuals, families, and communities.

We express our gratitude to State Senator Melissa Hurtado for her unwavering support and contributions that have significantly aided us in advancing our mission. Your generosity has made a significant impact on the community we serve, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration in making a positive difference.
